Bulldog is a British company and was founded in July 2007, inspiration for this brand came out necessity, as there were very few options available for men, who wanted to use products that were good for the skin and didn’t contain man-made chemicals.
Bulldog have developed a natural skincare range that doesn’t contain controversial ingredients such as parabens, sodium laureth sulphate, artificial colours or synthetic fragrances. Instead the company insists on using naturally active ingredients and essential oils. A move that made Bulldog the first and only male skincare company to be recognised and approved ‘cruelty-free’ by the BUAV (British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection, the British authority on animal testing issues) under their Humane Cosmetics Standards.
The packaging is no nonsense, white with brown and green plus the signature bulldog, making you feel manly whilst engaging in a traditionally feminine activity. Although the biggest growth area in skincare is male products and treatments, as more and more men are realising how beneficial it is to look after their skin.
The fact this range has been specifically developed for a male skin and not a female or unisex product which is in different packaging to appeal to guys is refreshing.
- Original Face Wash – Every skincare routine starts with a good cleanser, this cleanser is packed full with eight essential oils and green tea to gently cleanse cleanse the skin in a non drying formula. This is a lightly foaming cleanser as there is non of the traditional sodium laureth sulphates to give a mass of bubbles, but this does not affect its cleansing abilities and doesn’t leave the skin feeling dry or stripped. The texture is a thick viscous gel which is super concentrated, take a small amount into the palm of your hand, rub together to form a gentle lather then apply to the face. The uplifting aroma of Bergamot, Lemon, Lime and Green Tea makes cleansing such a pleasurable experience. At £4.50 for a 150ml size is fantastic value for money, considering the quality of ingredients and this should last you around 2/3 months of daily cleansing. This Original Face Wash can be purchased from the Bulldog website and can be found in high street stores.
- Original Face Scrub – This product has the signature aroma like the cleanser of the eight essential oils, combined with Shea Butter, Oat Kernel and Olive Seed which gently exfoliate the skin. The exfoliation particles have been ground down as to not scratch or irritate the skin, whilst buffing away the dead skin cells from the skin. Exfoliating is important for a male skin as if you shave on a regular basis it allows you to achieve a closer, cleaner shave. Exfoliation is important for either sexes as by removing the dead skin cells, allows all other products to be absorbed into the skin and be more effective. There isn’t much point in using a good quality or expensive moisturiser, if your not exfoliating regular. The texture is a rich cream, with tiny brown particles of the oat kernel and olive seed. Squeeze a small amount onto the finger tips and apply to dampened face and with a circular motion over the entire facial area, being careful to avoid the eyes. I would recommend to use the exfoliator after cleansing a couple of times a week, if you shave everyday I would use the exfoliator on the areas that your going to shave, every other day to avoid any ingrown hairs. At £5.00 for a 125ml size is fantastic value for money, considering the quality of ingredients and this should last you around 3/4 months of exfoliation. This Original Face Scrub can be purchased from the Bulldog website and can be found in high street stores.
- Original Moisturiser – Its great to see the signature scent of the eight essential oils continue with this product, as so often brands mix and match aromas between products which can sometimes clash. This moisturiser also contains Vitamin E, Konjac Mannan and Green Algae which are powerful ingredients to hydrate the skin. Most skin issues or concerns can come from not using the correct moisturiser or not using one at all. Especially for oilier skins as easy to think by adding a cream to the skin its going to make the oiliness worse, when in fact your skin needs hydration to function normally and your skins way of compensating for this can be to over produce oil. The texture is a gel/cream consistency which is non greasy, fast absorbing, which sinks into the skin on contact, providing essential hydration to protect the skin, with a semi matte finish. At £6.00 for a 100ml size is fantastic value for money, considering the quality of ingredients and this should last you around 6 months of daily hydration. This Original Moisturiser can be purchased from the Bulldog website and can be found in high street stores. Overall this range is worth giving a try, if you want a fuss free, dependable range that’s economical to use and there aren’t hundreds of products in the range to confuse you which is a big bonus. As lets face it us guys aren’t the best when we are given too much choice.
I very much look forward to trying more of the Bulldog range and will hopefully be writing a follow up review about those products soon.
