One of the questions that I get asked the most is “Do I really need to use a toner?” It is often seen as an extra step that many feel they don’t need. or have had bad experiences with toners that are full of alcohol that strip the skin as if you had poured vodka over yourself. My response has always been and always will be is yes, a toner is such an important part of your facial routine and it can make such a difference to your skin. A good quality toner will help all your other products work better, saving you money in the long run.
Whenever water comes into contact with your skin, like when you are cleansing, the water alters your PH level, causing an imbalance which your skin will work to correct, but this can take up to 12 hours. This means any serums, oils or moisturisers which you apply after aren’t able to work to their full potential, as the skin is using these products to help balance the skin.
I recently decided to try the Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic, as I am a big fan of their Cleanse & Polish cleanser, it seemed fitting to try their toner to see what a difference it could make to my skin. I chose the “spritzer” version as I find this delivery system to be quick, economic and means there won’t be any bits of cotton wool, clinging to my stubble.
From the first spritz I immediately understood why this is called “Instant Boost Skin Tonic” it was as though I had just walked through a cloud of heavenly floral nectar, leaving tiny droplets of moisture on my skin to cool and soothe. It’s unlike any toner I have tried before, it leaves your skin feeling so refreshed and I often treat myself to a spritz to feel calm and rebalanced.
I understand why Liz Earle have never felt the need to change this formula as “It Works” and as the saying goes, if it’s not broke don’t fix it.
I would highly recommend you to give this a try, if you’re not using a toner as you’re scared they might dry out your skin, then this couldn’t be further from that thought, your skin will thank you for adding this to your routine.
What are your thoughts about using a toner?
