I want to wish you all a #HappyHumpDay and I hope that you are enjoying better weather than I am, it’s cold, wet and pretty miserable up here at the moment. But i’m not going to let it dampen my spirits as I have some very exciting information for you, about a new innovation which allows you to perform professional microdermabrasion treatments in the comfort of your own home.
Microdermabrasion is a non-chemical, non-invasive procedure that uses microcrystals to remove the outermost layer of dry, dead skin cells to reveal a smoother, younger, healthier looking skin.
If you haven’t heard about Microdermabrasion, it’s probably because it’s usually only available at a professional beauty salon or dermatologist, as the devices can be quite expensive and they are fully trained to operate and deliver this type of treatment. There are various brands who have created a microdermabrasion type treatment using mechanical exfoliator particles to give a deep resurfacing treatment to the skin, but there is nothing quite like the real thing.
Thankfully since 2003 PMD have been creating their very own in home Microdermabrasion device’s, which combine the power of exfoliation by using a patented spinning disc with aluminium oxide crystals, with a unique vacuum suction to remove dead skin cells, increase blood flow and stimulate the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin.
In 2004 PMD performed a clinical study with the University of California, with 54 patients (44 Female & 10 male) where the physicians noticed a 70% improvement in wrinkles, 80% improvement in sun damage, 173% improvement in skin roughness and an overall skin improvement of 70%. These devices have also been compared to give results equivalent to a $10,000 physician grade microdermabrasion machine.
Over the last month I have been using a new addition to the PMD range, which has been specifically created to be used on a man’s skin and comes with the addition of a maximum strength disc to work on the thickest and toughest of men’s skin.
I found the device very easy to use and I have noticed a visible difference in the overall texture of my skin, it looks much healthier and incredibly soft to the touch. My fine lines, especially on my forehead and inbetween my eyebrows are now hardly noticeable and I am confident with further use they will disappear altogether. I would even go as far to say that I now have the skin of when I was in my 20’s.
I would always reccomend to start on the gentler discs first and build up to the stronger ones to allow your skin to adjust to this type of treatment as it is much more thorough than a usual facial exfoliator. Also before using this device wait 7 days since you last applied any other skin resurfacing, peeling or retinol products and refrain from using whilst you are using this device, as this could cause the skin to become sensitive, replace them all with this microdermabrasion device. Also make sure you wear a high spf cream to protect the new skin cells as they come to the surface.
Follow these simple steps and you will experience fantastic results just like i’ve seen on my skin :
- Make sure you throughly cleanse the skin and dry to the touch.
- Twist and lock the power cable into the device
- Choose which disc you would like to use, I reccomend using the white training disc on your arm to practice your technique.
- When you’re ready to move onto the face, pull the skin taut with your free hand.
- Turn on the device and sweep the Microdermabrasion device in an upward, fluid motion. Starting off at the chin and out to the ears, then moving up the face, making sure to avoid the eye area.
- One sweep is all you need, please refrain from going over an area.
- You only need to use this once a week.
- After I have completed the treatment I use a soothing toner on cotton pads to wipe over the skin and then apply my usual moisturiser.
- Make sure to remove the cap and give it a clean so it’s ready for your next treatment and free from bacteria and dirt.
If you would like to experience these results for yourself then this device can be purchased direct from the PMD website and retails at £140 and comes complete with eight discs in various strengths to use on the face and body.
I have previously had a microdermabrasion treatment at a salon which cost me £80 for one treatment, each of the discs can give three or four treatments, so there is the potential for 16 facial treatments and 16 body treatments in this collection which offers fantastic value for money. The discs can be replaced and purchased from the PMD website from as little as £19.
There is currently a celebration on the PMD website as it has just had a makeover and they are offering a 25% discount off all items by using the code UK25 at the checkout.
