Making An Ethically Conscious Healthy Choice | Ethical Superstore

I’m sure that I am not alone when I wish there was more hours in a day at times, modern life is very busy and hectic, while I love what I do on a daily basis, sometimes I don’t have the time to prepare a snack that is a healthy choice to refuel my body with much needed protein and carbohydrates to restore my energy levels to keep me going throughout the day.

With this in mind, I have recently made a conscious effort to find a snack that I could take anywhere with me and was enjoyable to eat, one that could give me a boost of energy with raw organic ingredients, that would also be suitable for vegans, vegetarians and that didn’t contain gluten, wheat or dairy as I wanted to choose something that could help everyone who has the same time issues and goals as me.

In my search I can across the Ethical Superstore website, who are celebrating their 10th Anniversary this year and their mission has always been to help others make feel good choices when it comes to shopping, as supporting an ethical retailer who wants to help farmers in developing countries and guarantee fair prices at every stage of the supply, so everyone is happy and no one is getting taken advantage of is very important to me as the world as a whole can only benefit.  They also look after and trade with British suppliers, to utilise local resources and reducing carbon emissions through importing.

I decided to try the Planet Organic Cacao Brazil Nut Energise Protein Bar as I am a bit fan of anything that contains nuts, especially almonds as they have been proven to lower blood sugar and blood pressure levels.

Each of these bars are 30g in size which provides you with the following nutrition and the Reference Intake is based on an average adult eating (2000 Kcal) per day :

  • 15g Carbohydrates (6% RI)
  • 9.7g Fibre
  • 4.4g Protein (9% RI)
  • 6.9g Fat (10% RI)
  • 130 Kcal (7% RI)
  • 0g Salt

I personally tend to use one of these bars mid afternoon, when I can feel that my energy levels are dropping and I need a boost.  What I was most surprised about was how good these tasted, as I have tried many others in the past that have left a dry, chalky taste in my mouth and definitely didn’t feel like a treat, almost like I was being penalised for trying to eat healthy, but not with these protein bars.  The combination of dates, brazil nuts, almonds, hemp protein which provide essential amino acids and cacao powder which is the purest form of chocolate to give it a raw sweetened taste.  I look forward to my daily bar, and I have noticed it that they have allowed me to continue being productive throughout the afternoon.

If you are time poor like me or you are just looking for a healthy alternative, I would highly suggest you give these Planet Organic protein bars a try from the Ethical Superstore.  They retail at £3.96 per bar or case of twenty will save you almost a £1 per bar for a price of £18.81.

The Ethical Superstore have also just extended their returns policy so you if you are looking to gift these to a loved one at Christmas, any purchases between the 8th November and 24th December 2016 can be returned up till the 31st January 2017, giving you that extra piece of mind.

Have you tried protein bars before?
